March 2007

This months main meeting was a real buzz with two great presentations Microsoft Visa and Zone Alarm .

Checkpoint software

Zone Alarm

and

Microsoft Vista

Andrew McKee, Asia Pacific Business Manager for Check Point Consumer Division came along to show Zone Alarm. Zone Alarm started life as a free internet security program and achieved a great reputation. Checkpoint took over ZoneAlarm and has taken a great product and gained it an industry wide acceptance as one of the most reliable overall security products on the market.
Under Checkpoint Kaspersky anti virus software was added and Zone Alarm now has found a market in many government and large private firms as their major protection both for the internet and network security.
Checkpoint still release the great free version of Zone Alarm but for $99 you can have both internet security and on one the most renowned anti virus software protections around.

Microsoft Vista

After the break Nick Hodge the Microsoft evangelist or as he prefers the professional geek gave a relaxed demonstration of the really cool features of Windows Vista.
Nick interviews all sorts of character with unique or interesting stories about the use of Windows including our own Terry Eakin. You can see Nicks interviews on
The Geek Show on > http://on10.net/blogs/nhodge/ and Channel nine at > http://channel9.msdn.com/

The session was fascinating with questions about installations compatibility’s, 64 verse 32 bit formats all with answers from the expert.
Some of the cool features Nick talked about.
Aero, it makes your open windows transparent. Why? If you have ever got confused which windows are open, need to go back to one with aero you can see through them without have in to flick through a list.
Using the ALT TAB keys to scroll through the open windows. Stick notes, small reminders you can place on your desktop. Photo gallery which allows you to create galleries straight from your memory stick or other photo card then burn them straight on the a DVD using Vista’s build in DVD burner.
