After our President reported on the good position the club is in he read the nominations for Committee members. All the existing members where re-appointed
and a new member, Elaine Rush, was elected.
The AGM was followed by supper
and after supper
Matt Tumminello, the Product Marketing Manager of Toshiba, Australia & New Zealand, gave a presentation on the current state of Toshiba’s innovations in notebook technology and gave us some idea of future trends.
Keith Rothsay, Technical Specialist, showed us Toshiba’s latest Laptop models, including a stripped down model to demonstrate just what can be fitted behind the screen
They spoke about where mobile computing is heading in the future and especially the new hard drive technology, the solid state drive (SSD).
Keith told us that Toshiba now has patents on a number of these solid state drive technologies and is introducing them into their mobile computer range. Find the details about this new hard drive format from Toshiba here http://www.toshiba.co.jp/about/press/2007_12/pr1001.htm
The latest in the mobile computer range, the R500 was passed around. It is one of the thinnest computers in the world and yet it includes a DVD rewriter. The DVD is a tiny 7 mm in height.
The unit weighs a mere .999 grams, that’s 2 kilos less than my four year old Toshiba A4.
After the presentation Matt drew the raffle prices. Tonight’s prizes where two SanDisk 2 GB Flash Drives and thanks to Toshiba’s generosity a Satellite Laptop Computer.
