We had a double header this month. Lloyd Borrett showed us the latest version of AVG anti-virus software and Michael McKinnon presented “Carbonite always-on” Internet backup solution.

For less than $6 per month, Carbonite Online PCBackup is not only the simplest and most affordable backup service on the market today, but its advanced “set and forget” capabilities mean users never have to think about manual backups again. Carbonite installs with just a few clicks and runs continually in the background, encrypting and securely backing up all new and changed files in a secure, offsite location whenever the PC is connected to the Internet. Storage capacity is unlimited and it’s easy to recover your files if anything ever happens to the computer

AVG Internet Security 8.0

Lloyd Borrett

AGV is renowned for its free anti virus software which is used by a number of our interest groups.
AVG Internet Security 8.0 the paid version contains AVG’s new “LinkScanner safe surf and safe search technology” which offers the only true real-time protection against web threats on the market today; the type of threats traditional firewall, anti-virus and Internet security products cannot stop.
Real-time detection of these threats is essential, as poisoned web pages may only be infective for a matter of hours, after which the perpetrator moves on to another site. AVG says getting a definitive safety report about every web site they plan to visit is very appealing to people.
But there’s plenty of other benefits - faster scanning performance through a multi-threaded scanning engine that leverages the latest multi-core hardware; protection against rootkits and system intrusion; security for MSN and ICQ instant messaging; and detection of infected file downloads, and a totally simplified and re-designed interface.

You can find all the details at the AGV site
