get old do they become wise.

Hello and Welcome,

There seems to be an opinion that Windows 7 will be the all to end all (a story thats been heard before). This months PC Authority magazine carries an article on 30 great reasons as to why one should ditch Vista.

On the PC Authority web site it is reported that there will be 5 versions of Windows 7 namely Windows 7 Starter, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate, want to know more?

Monday 9 February - Stocks & Shares - Malcolm Robertson - 6 pm - 8 pm

The past few months have seen dramatic changes in the financial industry world wide with heaps of doom and gloom being the only predictions from the PM and Treasurer!

Come along to the first meeting for the year 2009 and see what your fellow members think/forecast for the future of the markets.

Tuesday 10 February - Programming - Neville Hoffman - 6 pm - 8 pm

At the January meeting Neville showed two YouTube movies about cutting polystyrene foam with a hotwire under CNC control. They showed an industrial machine at work and an Instructable on building a DIY version.

Andrew L. reviewed his experience in programming computers with multiple CPU's and Wayne discussed the assembler code he wrote for last month's TV display of a PIC output.

This month we will see some new applications members have made with microprocessors.

Friday 13 February - Seniors - Bill Parry - 10 am - 12 noon

Friday Seniors SIG will spend some time on Vista'. Terry will bring along his laptop and those of you who have some experience using Vista can walk us through the fundamentals. Colin Bolton may also bring in his new laptop to show us how he has reconfigured some of the interface etc.

Friday 13 February - Communications - Terry Eakin - 1 pm - 3 pm

Terry will continue with 'Vista' to solve communication problems when using the operating system. Terry will also bring along some text books on the Windows Vista and Office 2007.

There will also be a discussion on saving of documents in Office Professional 2007. Many users cannot accept a word document in the .docx format so they are saved in the old file (compatible) of .doc or .xls when using Excel and this does remove some of the enhanced features of Office 2007.

Tip of the Week

ERUNT  (The Emergency Recovery Utility for NT) helps you perform a complete Registry Backup and Restore in Windows NT/2000/2003/XP/Vista.

You can use this utility as a primary registry backup utility, apart from System Restore. ERUNT can be downloaded from Majorgeeks.

ERUNT sets up a shortcut in the Startup group, that backs up the registry for the current day, during the first Windows startup for the day. This feature is provided by Autoback.exe add-on for ERUNT.
