Hello and Welcome,

This week we have a variety of topics, there is sure to be something of interest to you, so please come along, bring your questions, queries and tips to share with your fellow members.

Monday 9 November - Stocks & Shares - M. Robertson - 6 pm - 8 pm

The All Ords Index has fallen nearly 400 points from a level of just under 4900 on 15 October 2009 to 4519 on Thursday 5 November 2009. What will happen now?

At this meeting we will have a look at several indices.

John Lucke will show the Portfolio Manager in Insight Trader software. John has been using Insight Trader for many years. It is a very well written program.

Please note that there will not be a meeting of Stocks and Shares SIG in January 2010.

Tuesday 10 November - Programming - N. Hoffman - 6 pm - 8 pm

At last months meeting Stuart described doing simple maths on a PIC and showed the output on the screen, Steve showed a movie of a PIC device he made from an idea from YouTube to display the time on an oscilloscope, Joe requested help in diagnosing an error in a C program he wrote for a PIC and got dozens of helpful suggestions, some of which he tried out on the spot, others to try later.

At this meeting we'll see some new microprocessor applications and programming examples. Come and show your projects, or see some others.

Friday 13 November - Seniors - Bill Parry - 10 am - 12 noon

thebat At the next Friday Seniors SIG, Bill  will take a look at some email client programs with emphasis on 'The Bat' but not exclusively. As Windows 7 does not have it's own inbuilt email program it's a good time to check out the market. Bill invites all members to comment and show us what they are using.

Some members have also expressed an interest in a small but valuable program that Bill uses called 'Clipcache Pro' so we will also have a look at it in some detail.

Bill is pretty flexible so if any member has a topic of interest they would like to present, please advise Bill prior to the meeting.

Friday 13 November - Communications - Terry Eakin- 1 pm - 3 pm

Bob Backstrom will be setting up Terry's new Toshiba notebook as the class session. The upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows Ultimate and the partitioning of disks will take place from 9.30 am in the morning and will be available to view during the Friday Seniors if anyone wishes to see how its done. Lets make it a big day out and attend both sessions. Terry's new computer is a Toshiba, 16" with 4 Gb of memory, 1 gb of graphics and a 500 Gb HDD. He also has a new external 1 Tb HDD for storing back ups and data, and will partition this into two drives if possible.

Tip of the Week

foxFoxit Reader  the download size of Foxit Reader is just a fraction of Acrobat Reader 20 M size. When you run Foxit Reader, it launches instantly without any delay.

Foxit Reader allows you to draw graphics, highlight text, type text and make notes on a PDF document and then print out or save the annotated document. You may convert the whole PDF document into a simple text file.

Foxit Reader highly respects the security and privacy of users and will never connect to the Internet without users' permission. While other PDF readers often silently connect to the Internet in the background. Foxit PDF Reader does not contain any spyware.

So until next week, health and happiness,
